SEMI PRECIOUS BEADS

The class of stones known as semi precious are considered to be natural stones that are mined from the earth or stones that are not classified as gemstones.  The class of semi precious stones seems to have more to do with quality or grade and less to do with a stone's composition.  Many semi precious stones are treated using various methods of dying and/or stabilization.  Stabilization is generally a transparent resin that is injected into the stone to give the stone strength.  Many of the Turquoise beads on today's market are stabilized.  Some stones are heat-treated under intense heat to enhance their natural color or to remove flaws.  Other stones are irradiated exposing the stone to radiation which effects the color intensity.
